GALAXIES & THE WIDER UNIVERSE
Our world-leading research in both theoretical and observational astrophysics and cosmology includes topic areas such as: dark energy, dark matter, general relativity, pulsars and transients science, cosmic microwave background, blackholes and galaxy formation and evolution, as well as high resolution simulations of structure formation. On the theoretical front, the Beecroft Institute of Particle Astrophysics and Cosmology and in the Rudolf Peierls Centre for Theoretical Physics lead the way in trying to understand the problem of dark matter, what it might be, how it affects the large-scale structure of the Universe.
