INTRODUCTION
Mike Jones designs and builds state-of-the-art radio telescopes and use these to make observations of the universe, particularly of the cosmic microwave background. He develops the relevant technologies to optimise the sensitivity and accuracy of these measurements, including high-performance antennas, cryogenic receivers, RF systems and broad-band digital signal processing. Many of these techniques are also applicable to satellite and deep-space communications and he collaborates with and does consultancy for leading players in the space industry.
