About this event

About "Inclusive Space"

The Oxford Space Initiative, in collaboration with The Karman Project will host a series of workshops exploring “Inclusive Space.” Please be welcome to join us for multimedia exchanges on the issues in space commerce and governance, with tools and insights from the arts and culture. We will explore the topics of social science, space governance, international collaborations, peaceful use of space, commercial space, as well as arts and cultural efforts in sustainable development in space.

About “Collective Musing - Arts, Humanities and Space”

We are happy to announce the date of the first workshop “Collective Musing - Arts, Humanities and Space” on 20 July , 17:00-22:00, BST at the Saïd Business School, Lecture Theatre in TBEC.

In this workshop we ask the following questions:

  • How can artistic thinking and sci-fi imaginations enable us to have a different or fresh view of human space exploration?

  • Space-Art-Humanities: What kinds of collective consciousness does this matrix make possible for us as humans on Earth?

  • Towards the peaceful use of space: how do we survive and thrive on other planets – and build awareness on Earth to make this possible?

  • What could be other prototype ideas on art & technology/science when it comes to interdisciplinary design and practice?

  • Is space really far? What are the applications of space technologies/satellite data in our daily lives?

Ke Wang, who is the Co-Founder of Karman Project, will moderate the panel discussions with some of the Karman Fellows and guests from the interdisciplinary fields of space, arts, and humanities to tackle those questions. She joins us as a Social Sciences Engagement Fellow at Oxford over several months and the series of workshops.

An interactive session with participants will follow to facilitate the continued discussions from the above questions and on art thinking in entrepreneurship and communication, arts & space as a prototype for cross-disciplinary imaginations and practices. We close the workshop with a casual networking session.
