INTRODUCTION

Richard Katz is a geodynamicist with an interest in the physics of partially molten rock and ice. His research is on mathematical theory and models of liquid transport through a deforming solid medium, with applications to Earth and planets. In the context of planetary science, Katz is interested in dissipative heating by body tides and its relationship with partial melting. He has published research on Jupiter’s moon Io and on Saturn’s moon Enceladus. Katz is the author of The Dynamics of Partially Molten Rock (Princeton Univ Press, 2022).
