INTRODUCTION

David Lehmann is a Researcher in Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Saïd Business School, affiliated with the Oxford Space Initiative, a social sciences research group investigating space commerce and governance, as well as with the Oxford Saïd Entrepreneurship Centre. For the Oxford Space Initiative, David is leading on a review paper on innovation ecosystems across the space sector. In addition, he has co-authored a series of Oxford Answers posts on the shifting ecosystems of the space sector. He is also the liaison with our collaboration with the The Karman Project, a civil society agency based in Berlin that creates international linkages among space expertise and the humanities.

David's broader research interests include innovation strategy, corporate entrepreneurship, entrepreneurial decision-making, SME growth, digital technologies, and economic policy. His current work, grounded in the Austrian school and the German Freiburg school of economic thought, explores the role of uncertainty, non-financial influences on strategic decision-making, ecosystems, and state-private-sector interfaces for entrepreneurship and innovation.

He brings considerable experience as a teacher and tutor. Most recently, he served as the Lead Teaching Fellow and core member of the teaching team for the MBA elective, ‘Smart Space: Building the New Space Age' at Oxford Saïd. In addition, he is a Tutor for the Oxford Strategic Innovation Programme. David also teaches on undergraduate, graduate and executive-level courses beyond Oxford Saïd: For example, he serves as a Lecturer at ESCP Business School (for their Berlin, London and Paris campuses) and as a Tutor for the Stanford University Overseas Office in Oxford.

David is currently finalising his PhD at ESCP Business School with a dissertation on innovation in family firms. Prior to his academic career, he was an entrepreneur in the creative industries. He has a long commitment to civic service, for example as a volunteer at Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe, the German equivalent to St John Ambulance. He is also a member of the DIE JUNGEN UNTERNEHMER, the German Young Family Entrepreneurs' Association, where he chairs the economic policy commission.
